Roblox is reclassifying DevEx payments as royalties. The headline is the form change. The real story is the threshold.

Your checklist before October 31

  1. 1

Check your tax status in Creator Hub

The Taxes page went live July 15, 2026. Confirm your W-9 or W-8 is there and valid — not just that you submitted one to Tipalti years ago.

  2. 2

Request any payout you want under the old rules by October 15, 2026

This is Roblox's own recommended deadline, and it exists because processing takes time.

  3. 3

Record where your income falls either side of November 1

You may receive two forms for tax year 2026. Knowing which payments landed before and after the switch makes reconciling them straightforward instead of guesswork.

  4. 4

Save every payout record for the full year

Screenshot each payout confirmation with its date and amount. Your own records are what resolve a mismatch with a 1099, not the other way round.

  5. 5

Talk to a professional if this year was your first real income

Especially if you are under 18 or a parent handling a minor's income. The royalty classification is genuinely contested territory.
