How DevEx actually works
DevEx is the only sanctioned way to turn Robux into money. You accumulate earned Robux from selling things on the platform, hit the 30,000 minimum, submit a request in Creator Hub, and Roblox pays you through Tipalti.
Earned Robux is not the same as your Robux balance
This is where most first cashouts fail. Only Robux you earned can be exchanged. Roblox counts these as earned:
- Developer products, passes and subscriptions sold inside your experience
- Fees from in-experience purchases of Marketplace items, and fees from Robux Transfers through the Transfer API
- Paid private servers, paid access purchased in Robux, Roblox Plus incentives, and ads published inside a game
- Paid models and plugins sold on the Creator Store
- Avatar items sold in the Marketplace
- Creator Rewards from daily engagement and audience expansion
And these never count, no matter how large your balance looks:
- Robux you bought directly
- Monthly Robux grants from a Roblox subscription
- Trading or resale of in-game or avatar items
- Robux received through Robux transfers
- Robux from gift card redemption
- Passes sold for template games with no legitimate user visits
- Violative content that was moderated
The six eligibility requirements
- Be at least 13 years old
- Have a minimum of 30,000 Earned Robux in your account
- Have a Roblox-verified email address
- Have a valid DevEx portal account
- Have either an IRS Form W-9 (U.S. taxpayers) or W-8 (non-U.S. taxpayers) on file with Roblox
- Be in complete compliance at all times with Roblox's Terms of Use and Community Standards
The tax form requirement is the one people forget, and it matters more from Nov 1, 2026, when DevEx payments become royalties. Here is what that changes.
Why old balances pay less
If you were earning before September 5, 2025, part of your balance is stuck at the old $0.0035 rate. Two rules make this worse than people expect:
- Old-rate balances must be cashed out before any Robux earned at the current rate. This includes one-time payouts from groups.
- Spending Robux on the platform does not clear your old-rate balance. Spending deducts from your total balance, but it does not count toward clearing the previous-rate Earned Robux first.
The practical effect: you cannot skip the old balance to cash out at the better rate, and you cannot spend your way past it. Use the Mixed setting above to see what a split balance is really worth.
The U.S. 18+ rate has conditions attached
The $0.0054 rate is not a blanket upgrade for American creators. It applies to specific purchases — developer products, passes, subscriptions, private servers — made by U.S. players who verified they are 18 or older, and only in experiences that meet character requirements:
- Players must spend 100% of active playtime as an R15 platform avatar — no R6 spawning or switching
- Custom human-form characters need roughly 1 head, 2 arms and 2 legs, 12 limb parts or joints distributed evenly, a torso with at least 2 parts or joints, and full bipedal range of motion
- Animation packs must be R15, not R6
If your experience spawns R6 avatars, none of your revenue qualifies, regardless of who is spending.
Requesting a payout
Go to Creator Hub, open Finances, and select Cash Out. Use your legal name — nicknames or a parent's name will delay or disqualify the review. You can request once per calendar month, after the previous payment lands.
Reviews take around 10 business days the first time and around 5 after that, plus bank processing. Delays usually trace back to a name mismatch, missing tax information, or an unresolved moderation action on the account.
Frequently asked questions
How much is 100,000 Robux in USD?
At the standard DevEx rate of $0.0038, 100,000 earned Robux is $380.00. At the U.S. 18+ rate it is $540.00, and at the legacy rate $350.00.
Only earned Robux counts. Robux you bought, were gifted, or received through a transfer cannot be exchanged at any rate.
What is the current DevEx rate?
The standard rate is $0.0038 per earned Robux, in effect since September 5, 2025 at 10am PT. Roblox also runs a $0.0054 rate for spend from age-verified 18+ U.S. players, added June 8, 2026.
Why are there three DevEx rates?
Because two rate changes left overlapping balances. Robux you already held before September 5, 2025 keeps the old $0.0035 rate and must be cashed out first. Everything earned since then uses $0.0038 — unless it came from age-verified 18+ U.S. players in a qualifying experience, which earns $0.0054.
Spending Robux does not clear your old-rate balance. It comes off your total, but the old-rate portion stays in the queue.
How many Robux do you need to DevEx?
30,000 earned Robux. At the standard rate that first cashout is $114.00 before any payout fee.
Does DevEx charge a fee?
Roblox does not charge a DevEx fee. The payment processor, Tipalti, deducts a transaction fee that depends on your payout method, and converting into a currency other than USD adds a foreign exchange fee of 1.9% to 3%.
Roblox does not publish per-method fee amounts. Your exact fee shows in the DevEx portal before you confirm.
How long does a DevEx payment take?
Roblox reviews first-time requests in around 10 business days and returning requests in around 5 business days. Your bank adds its own processing time on top.
You can request a payout once per calendar month, after the previous one is received.
